Our mission

Making visible what really develops skills.

Triyo Lab is an action research and digital innovation lab dedicated to skills development. It brings together subject-matter experts, professionals, organisations and the people its initiatives serve to design, test and evaluate solutions that meet real needs in practice.

Every year, considerable time and money go into training. Yet we rarely know what actually leaves a lasting mark. TRIYO Lab exists to fill that gap.

We also make it easier to learn directly from practising professionals. Through Career Conversations with the Circle, we are preparing free sessions to help people looking for work, facing barriers to employment, exploring a new career direction or changing careers understand a profession and make informed decisions about their next steps

Why we want to make a difference

128,000

registered training providers — yet few reliable points of reference to help people choose.

€32bn

invested each year in vocational training and apprenticeships.

39%

of core skills need to evolve by 2030, yet the real impact of training remains largely unmeasured.

Our anchor point

UN Sustainable Development Goal 4

Substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship

Target 4.4, adopted by all UN Member States in 2015

01

Observe real-world practice

We start from what actually happens, not from what we would like to believe.

02

Bring perspectives together

We bring expert and practitioner perspectives together with data to move beyond individual hunches.

03

Turn insights into practical guidance

We use what we learn to create practical tools and share them freely.

Independent research that benefits everyone.

Our work is independent of any commercial interest. The tools we build, the information we gather and the findings we reach are all offered free of charge, with no paywall and nothing to unlock. We are simply doing our part.

Our initiatives come to life through the commitment of our members and volunteers, and the support of our patrons and donors.

Where it comes from

« I did not think it was fair that access to good training should depend on word of mouth ».

Over eighteen years working in skills development, I came across training providers I thought of as ‘hidden gems’: sometimes little known and, at the time, not always certified, yet able to offer courses that truly transformed working practices and career paths.

Yet some people had to pass up these opportunities because funding was not available for those courses. As professionals, we could rely on word of mouth to find these hidden gems. But what happens if you do not have that network, when a career change or a new direction can hinge on a single course?

TRIYO Lab grew out of this conviction : to make visible what really makes training valuable , so that everyone can make better informed choices.
